KPK to confiscate Theo's assets

JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned former Investment Coordinating Board chairman Theo F. Toemion to clarify his assets ahead of compensating the state for losses of Rp 23 billion (US$2.5 million).

In November 2006, the anti-corruption court sentenced Theo to six years in prison after he was found guilty of misusing Indonesian Investment Year Program funds worth Rp 47.8 billion in 2003 and 2004.

He realized some Rp 7.4 billion from the program, or 15 percent of the total budget, and was also proven guilty for appointing a fictitious company, PT Catur Dwikarsa Indonesia, to conduct the project.

Theo, who is being detained at Cipinang Penitentiary, arrived at the KPK office Monday morning and promised he would return his assets in compensation.

"But we must wait for the judicial case I filed at the Supreme Court," he said.

KPK deputy chairman overseeing the confiscation of assets, Ferry Wibisono, said the commission would confiscate Theo's assets after the court's decision.

"We will confiscate his assets as soon as the court has concluded Theo's judicial case," he said. -- JP
