JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police have arrested four suspects and confiscated thousands of pirated DVDs, VCDs and CDs in eight different raids, the police said Tuesday.
The raids took place in the Pusat Grosir Cililitan wholesale market in East Jakarta, Lebak Bulus and Bintaro in South Jakarta, Jl. Mangga Besar and Johar Baru in Central Jakarta, Koja in North Jakarta and Pancoran and Glodok in West Jakarta.
Glodok is known as a center for pirated CDs.
The suspects, identified as TH, ES, SAR and SJT, were arrested as part of an ongoing series of raids since early March.
Police spokesman Sr. Comr. I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said in a statement the police confiscated more than 100,000 DVDs and VCDs, mostly containing pornographic material, and thousands of original CDs, 19 copying machines, a computer, two printers, two keyboards and two boxes of CD covers.
Yoga said the suspects would be charged with violating the copyright law and the Criminal Code on buying illegal goods, as well as for disseminating pornographic material.
They could be jailed up to five years, he added. -- JP
