Blocking websites

The blockage is not fair for me, as a teenager. I learn so much stuff, have friends through those sites, download songs and videos because the prices of foreign CDs aren't reachable for me. The more they forbid things, the more people will look for other ways to get them.

Blocking these websites is really not necessary. The people who get offended by these films already know for a fact that the filmmaker is only a stereotype that has no true understanding of Islam at all.

The lack of knowledge by the filmmaker only shows that he can only misjudge Islam without really knowing the truth about the religion.

Being very much against this Fitna film, I was in favor of the government blocking. But what surprised me is that state-owned TVRI showed many parts of the film.

The maker of film Fitna is just as confused about Islam as Abu Bakar Ba'asyir. Why only ban YouTube? Why doesn't the government ban Ba'asyir too? On top of that, they are spreading hatred. The government should be wise enough.

This policy is simply ridiculous. The government is making a big deal of Wilder's case. This move would actually draw people's interests to watch the film, which the government was trying to prevent.

I am disappointed and so are the rest of the web surfers out there, vying for the latest music videos from YouTube. Once again, the government shows ignorance in protecting our freedom, our human rights.

There are many ways to Roma. Blocking the websites is like burning the nest of mice.

Since YouTube, MySpace and other recreational sites have been blocked the government's GDP growth estimate should be revised upwards.

I agree with the comment made by Wimar Witoelar (The Jakarta Post, April 11). This is a clumsy move by the government. YouTube and MySpace users are visiting the site for productive purposes, not for Fitna.

The government has blocked YouTube, MySpace and other websites? Geert, you succeeded in provoking the emotional immature ignorance!

You want to know what I think? It's also a betrayal of reformation.

I agree with the government's move to block YouTube and MySpace for showing Fitna because Muslims are the majority in Indonesia. I am glad the government took this stance, showing respect to Islam. Western people have to learn not to provoke Muslims.

Internet-blocking costs the government credibility.

Funny, I am in a Bekasi market. There are some stalls which sell DVD/CD/MP3s. They also sell copies of the film Fitna. People are always more creative than the government! By the way, I am a tourist from India.

The action to block YouTube and MySpace is improper and, sorry to say, a little bit primitive. Why doesn't the government post to YouTube and MySpace an explanation that Fitna is only rubbish produced by a person with the intention to divide our national spirit so we become a weak nation?
M SULHAN ASKANDAR

Religion seems like a crucial matter in Indonesia. Protest against Fitna could be seen several weeks ago. It made the government block three websites to avoid any harmful protest.

Why don't we try to see the 15-minute Fitna from a different point of view? If we didn't see the film, why should we be offended? Try not to be quick to burn by any circumstances.
ENGGAR
Jakarta

I agree with the government for blocking the websites which are showing Fitna. We have to respect any religion. But if the government's blockage is too long, it's not good for many people who need those websites to browse what they need.
HANI FATMAWATI

Blocking the websites is not necessary. People have watched that short film since months ago. Some of them have copied the film.
ANI SAVITRI

The blockage is a great idea but the government has to realize that people can find many ways to see Fitna.
