KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: A member of Batutua police station in Rote Ndao regency reportedly assaulted a woman until she passed out because she refused to have sex with him.

The victim, identified as Novi Klara, 52, is being treated in intensive care at the Ba'a district hospital for severe wounds to her face and body.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, is still being investigated by the local police. According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, identified as Second Brig. Bambang, went to the victim's house in the late afternoon when it was quiet.

"He directly went inside Novi's room, which was not locked, and tried to force her to have sex. She refused and was beaten several times until she bled," said an eyewitness Sarlin Besi, 35.

He said the victim's two children were not at home, while her husband was in Kupang, when the incident happened.

Rote Ndao police chief Comr. Juventus Seran declined to comment on the attempted rape case and even prohibited reporters from covering it. -- JP
