State-owned mining company PT Aneka Tambang (ANTAM) has provided clean water supply for residents in Malasari, Cisarua and Nanggung villages, Bogor regency.

The supply system carries water from Cileles spring, located in Gunung Salak Halimun National Park, via a storage tank and 14 kilometer pipe, to the three villages.

A Malasari resident, Otih, said she was a little upset with the new system.

"I'm happy with the company effort but not all residents benefit as the pipe does not connect to all the houses," she said Wednesday.

She said she still had to take water from the Cisadane River since wells near her house were not reliable.

Village authorities require residents to pay Rp 1,000 (10 US cents) per month toward maintenance.

ANTAM has also distributed nutritious food packages to children in the villages, which have had 40 malnutrition cases since 2006. Each package contains milk and supplementary foods.

Under the program, ANTAM will provide food packages for the next six months at a total cost of Rp 1.7 million per child.
