Stop illegal logging

Tue, 04/29/2008 12:39 PM  |  Opinion

The loggers must be arrested because they have destroyed our earth. They thought that forests could be reforested easily after they exploited them. It takes time to grow trees. They never think about the consequences. Because of the exploitation, we all have to live with the impact.

London: The living museum -- April 27, p. 13

Your brief article on London reminded me of my fascination the first time I visited this unique city.

An extremely interesting place is the world's largest collection of stolen, pillaged and ravished artifacts, called the British Museum.

This collection is a testimony to the single-mindedness with which British invaders felt it their duty to steal the patrimony of countries and cultures from all corners of the globe, and at the same time sow the seeds of misery for centuries to come by imposing their unfortunately woefully misguided concepts of how countries should be organized.

That's why today we can see misery, turmoil and suffering in Sudan, Iraq, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Kashmir, Nigeria, Afghanistan and who knows how many other places, all creatures of the glorious British Empire!

In recent years the government of Greece has renewed efforts to induce the British to return artifacts stolen by a shameless thief named Lord Elgin, but the British are steadfastly refusing to do so, maintaining that what has been looted must stay looted!

On banning Ahmadiyah -- April, 23, p. 1

Islam is a universal religion. Every person has his own freedom to practice his religion, but this freedom is limited by rule of law, which is held by ulema, including the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

We can't deny their recommendation even in the name of democracy, tolerance and freedom of religion.

We should understand what the words mean that we may tolerate other religions to live side by side, but what Ahmadiyah did has broken one's faith. I mean, Ahmadiyah takes some essential foundations of Islam and recreates it by changing the faith of Prophet Muhammad into Mirza Gulam Ahmad.

It is a violation of Islamic teaching and Ahmadiyah virtually has violated Pancasila and freedom of religion. Obviously, the Koran says that there is no prophet after Muhammad.

STOP ILLEGAL LOGGING

Stop all forms of logging, whether legal or illegal, of the primary forests of Indonesia, Aceh and West Papua. Their biodiversity conceals the biomolecules and bioprocesses of tomorrow's industry. The services they provide to the country, like water catchment, flood containment and protection of soils from erosion are invaluable.

Logging should be sustainable and concern wood plantations only. Logging of primary forests is a stupidity, with very serious consequences.
