Journo's death likely suicide

JAKARTA: Initial investigations indicate that the 30-year-old British national, Alexander Smith, who fell from his apartment committed suicide, police say Wednesday.

"There is indication that he may have killed himself. But we are still investigating," said South Jakarta crime department head Comr. Iwan Kurniawan, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.

The police did not find any traces of forced entry at Alexander's apartment.

Alexander was a cameraman at the Asia Works International Television since 2000. He fell from the 21th floor Monday, holding a notebook computer.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of an accident.

Alexander's family collected his body Wednesday, said Iwan. -JP
