Does size matter? Ask Indonesia's new Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Wahid Supriyadi.
"I am still surprised to find that everything in this country is big," he said.
"The (ambassador's official) house is big, each room has its own lounge. Even the tofu and the beef comes in big pieces," he said in an email to university alumni.
Wahid, who graduated from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, added that the two-story house was located on a 1,400-square-meter plot of land.
"It has three dining tables. All are big. I don't know where to eat!"
Wahid, who arrived in Abu Dhabi on Monday night, might not be sure about which dining table to eat at, but he knows the job he is there to do.
On his first official day in office Tuesday, he met with 64 Indonesian migrant workers to discuss their work conditions and later in the evening met a local businessman interested in investing in Batam.
Wahid said he was committed to making efforts to make better economic ties with the UAE.
"It is not an easy job," said the former consular-general who was previously stationed in Victoria and Tasmania, Australia. -- JP/T.Sima Gunawan
