PEKANBARU: The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) in Riau is experiencing difficulties finding saleable candidates for the incoming governor race as many politicians have been implicated in illegal logging and graft cases.
According to a PKS senior figure from Pekanbaru on Wednesday, PKS sent six names to the party's executive board in Jakarta, but they were rejected. One was involved in an illegal logging case and was still being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Several incumbent regents, who have asked PKS's political support for their candidacy, will be questioned over illegal logging and graft cases, he said.
The party has not decided whether to form a coalition with other parties, he said.
The race is scheduled for Sept. 22. --JP
