JAKARTA: The Defense Ministry has set up a special team to audit its assets -- including weapons, military equipments and plots of land -- to improve its financial report.
"The team will work to meet the standard set by the financial report issued by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK)," ministry spokesman Slamet Hariyanto said Thursday.
"The BPK finding shows the defense ministry's 2008 financial report is far from adequate."
Following the finding, Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono ordered the team to list and value the ministry's and the Indonesian Military's assets, Slamet said.
The assessment is expected to be completed before 2010.
The ministry has repeatedly called on legislators to increase the defense budget. -- JP
