JAKARTA: A number of prominent local figures will meet in Kota Batu municipality, East Java, on May 14 and 15 to mark the centennial commemoration of the national awakening.
Former Muhammadiyah chairman Achmad Syafiie Ma'arif, Nahdlatul Ulama chairman Hasyim Muzadi, famous poet WS Rendra and Paramadina University rector Anies Baswedan are among the figures speaking and joining focus group discussions at the event.
They will explore Indonesia's achievements over the 100 years from the country's awakening, marked by the establishment of the first nationalist organization Budi Utomo, to the present. They will also discuss their vision for the nation-state for the next century.
The event is organized by Kota Batu's Guyub Seduluran Community with support from the local administration and Paramadina University. -- JP
