JAKARTA: The Senayan Cricket Club has grabbed the Jakarta Cricket League title after beating defending champion Gandhi Memorial International School during the finals at the Ceylon Cricket Club in Cibubur, East Jakarta, on Sunday.

Senayan outpaced Gandhi by six wickets, the organizer said in a release sent to The Jakarta Post.

Gandhi, which won the coin toss and elected to bat first, enjoyed a flying start, scoring 10 an over and reaching 49 in the first five overs.

A tight bowling spell from Senayan's William Noronha (3 for 26) put the brakes on Gandhi's innings, with the students only managing to score 157 before being bowled out.

Senayan's batting openers were bowled out for only 33. However, Gandhi was unable to use Senayan's early loss to their advantage.

A 72 run partnership for the 3rd wicket between Senayan's William Noronha (31) and Subho Sarkar (41) took the game away from last year's champions.

Senayan eventually secured the crown with a convincing six wickets. Vice captain Faisal Hashmi scored 32 runs not out. --JP
