JAKARTA: The Indonesian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) announced Wednesday a 30-man squad to take on Cambodia and Laos in upcoming IRB-sanctioned Rugby Tests at the Pelita Harapan University Stadium in Karawaci, Tangerang, Banten, from July 15 to 19.
These two tests are part of the HSBC Asian 5 Nations (a5n) Rugby - Regional Tournament Indonesia 2008, which also includes an opening match between Laos and Cambodia on Saturday, July 12.
"This is the first time rugby international tests have been played on Indonesian soil," the union said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
The Indonesian National Rugby Team, better known as the Rhinos, will play Laos on July 15 and Cambodia on July 19. Both matches will kick off at 4 p.m.
"Spectators are most welcome to come out and support the Rhinos as they set out to continue their unbeaten run against these two nations following on from their success at the former Asian Division 6 Championships last year in Brunei," it said.
The Rhinos Squad will assemble in Jakarta on July 9 to begin intense training under national coach Mohammad Ismail Bin A Kadir and his assistant Steve Hayward, who will name a final squad of 24 players prior to the match against Laos. --JP
