JAKARTA: Members of the House of Representatives' Commission III for legal affairs on Monday asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to closely monitor its staff to prevent internal corruption.

Lawmaker Azlaini Agus of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said the KPK should improve control systems to maintain its credibility.

"There has been some gossip in Riau that KPK staff members charged people money in one case," he told a KPK hearing.

"We hope the KPK can clean its management from such persons because we have pinned high hopes on it to combat corruption."

KPK chairman Antasari Azhar dismissed the rumors, saying the commission already has mechanisms to monitor it staff.

"I suppose that there were some people pretending to be KPK staff. If you have any proof, you can contact us immediately and we will check it," he said.

"We don't tolerate any disciplinary infractions. We, for example, have administratively punished five staff members for breaking commission regulations." -- JP
