JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday delayed a hearing in the civil lawsuit against Tommy Soeharto due to the absence of three other defendants in the case.
Judge Reno Listowo adjourned the trial until July 23 after representatives for PT Vista Bella Pratama, PT Mandala Buana Putra and PT Timor Nasional failed to turn up. O.C. Kaligis, Tommy's attorney, along with lawyers for Humpuss group and Amazonas Finance Ltd., were present.
In May, the Attorney General's Office, representing the Finance Ministry, sued Tommy for selling without consent the assets from Timor Nasional, his automobile company, to Vista, a company owned by his Humpuss group.
Timor was sold to Vista for Rp 512 billion (US$55 million), far below Timor's estimated value of Rp 4.6 trillion. The prosecution in the case said the sale cost the state Rp 4 trillion in losses.
Tommy, former president Soeharto's youngest son, has faced multiple civil and criminal lawsuits since his father left office. In October 2006, he walked free after serving less than half of his 10-year jail term for killing a judge. -- JP
