Police on Monday discovered six more bodies in the backyard of mutilation murder suspect Verry Idam Henyansyah's childhood home in Jatiwates, Jombang, East Java.
The new finding on Monday raised the number of people allegedly murdered by Verry (better known as Ryan), 30, at his parents' house to 10, not including Heri Santoso, 40, who was murdered and mutilated at the Margonda Garden Residence in Depok, West Jakarta, on July 11, 2008.
Police said there were still six more unrecovered bodies claimed to have been buried in the backyard.
If the police information is accurate, the total number of victims murdered by Verry could have jumped to 17, including a Caucasian as has been confirmed by the police's autopsy reports.
East Java Police crime investigation unit director Sr. Comr. Rusli Nasution said his subordinates were still expanding the case and inspecting the area around Verry's parents' house.
"Today we found only six more bodies. The six bodies, which include two women, were not mutilated as they died after being hit by a dagger or rocks in the back of their heads," Rusli told The Jakarta Post amid the digging work in Jombang.
Five people have recently been reported missing to the police: Silvia and Nanik Kristianti; Zainul Abidin, a radio announcer in Jombang; Fauzi Suyanto, a resident of Nganjuk, East Java; and Mohammad Ahsony, a resident of Sidoarjo.
However, the police have not been able to disclose the identities of the newly recovered bodies as they were still waiting for the results of post-mortem examinations at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Surabaya.
Three of the four bodies found in the yard by the police earlier were identified Monday as Vincensius Yudi Priono from Wonogiri, Central Java; Ariel Somba Sitanggang, a Jakarta real estate agent; Guruh Setio Pramono from Nganjuk, East Java; and Grendy, who was believed to be a Dutch citizen.
"With regard to Grendy, we have not received any confirmation from either the Dutch Embassy or others," Rusli said.
Jakarta Police crime unit director Sr. Comr. Carlo Brix Tewu said that during the investigation Verry expressed regret over the killings.
The police believed the murders were motivated by jealousy and the suspect's intention to confiscate the victims' wealth.
"This can be proven by Ryan's confession that he had sold a laptop and jewelry owned by Nanik, whose body was recovered today," Carlo said, adding that the murder suspect had also confiscated money belonging to the victims and a PDA unit currently used by Verry that had belonged to Nanik.
The police, Carlo said, would soon have Verry undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
The serial killing case came to the surface when Verry was arrested by the police after he allegedly killed and mutilated Heri Santoso on July 11. Hery's body parts were dumped in the Ragunan area in South Jakarta.
Police arrested him four days later in his apartment.
