West Sumatra flood, landslide cused Rp 75b damage

The regency of Tanah Datar, West Sumatra has calculated that flash flooding and landslides that hit the Pasia Laweh area on Monday caused up to Rp 75 billion (US$6.5 million) in losses, tempointeraktif.com has reported.

Deputy Regent Auzul Syuib said that the incident destroyed 22 houses and damaged 71 others and severely damaged 2 mosques and 2 mushollas (small prayer house).

Mud swept away 2 bridges, damaging 24 others and affecting 1.3-kilometers of water lines.

More than 270 hectares of farms, 71 farming pools and 165 meters of irrigation construction were also destroyed.

Auzul said the regency was working to remove victims to safer places and clean debris left by the flood.

As of Monday evening one man had been reported dead and three others injured in the incident. (dre)
