  • A big top was recently erected in the middle of an open field in Serpong, Tangerang. Several trucks were parked outside. From afar, one could not hear blaring music or see gleaming lights.

Crowds of people could only be spotted around the entrance gate. As we approached the tent, we heard children playing the trumpet.

Inside the marquee, everyone was waiting for the show to begin. Everyone was eagerly awaiting the “Oriental Circus Indonesia”.

As soon as the show started, spectators were on the edge of their seat, amazed and bursting into fits of laughter all at once. That night, about 12 acts were performed in nearly one and a half hour, by acrobats, tigers, elephants and poodles. People were so enthralled with the show they forgot about their uncomfortable hard benches and stayed until the bitter end.

The Oriental Circus Indonesia had entertained the public since 1969. It has performed about 44 times in different cities across the country. The circus is supported by the Indonesian Air Force and the Safari Park.
