alaysia and China have reached an understanding in the fight against transnational crimes, including fraud carried out by syndicates from China but based in Malaysia, one of which is the Macau scam.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said tens of billions of dollars were lost to these syndicates, which were targeting the Chinese.
“Over the years, we have arrested 744 people and all have been deported to China,” he told a press conference here during his working visit to Beijing and Kunming.
On counter-terrorism efforts, Ahmad Zahid said China would be providing high-technology gadgets to enhance and expand the Regional Digital Counter-Messaging Communications Centre set up by Malaysia.
He said China thanked the Malaysian government for taking the initiatives and actions in tackling crime and terrorism issues.
He has held meetings with State Counselor and Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun, Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China secretary Meng Jianzhu and International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) president Meng Hongwei since Tuesday.
