ith the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan just around the corner, Ciamis regency in West Java is going to mark the occasion with a cultural festival called Pesona Galuh Nagari (Wonderful Galuh Nagari) 2017.

Slated to run for a week from May 19 to 25, the festival is said to feature six traditional events and ceremonies, starting with Jagir Festival that will run from May 19 to 20 in Jayagiri-Penumbangan village, followed by Misalin traditional ceremony in Tunggalrahayu hamlet in Cimaragas village and Ngikis traditional ceremony in Karangmulyan village, both on May 22.

On May 23, the festival will host a Nyepuh traditional ceremony in Ciomas district, along with Merlawu traditional ceremony on May 24 at Mount Susuru in Kertabumi village. Meanwhile, the last event will be Merlawu II traditional ceremony on May 25 at Mount Padang in Sukaresik village.

“Pesona Galuh Nagari 2017 aims to bring out Ciamis’ tourism potential. It is a community-based event and we need to constantly promote it so that it can become a magnet for tourists,” said  Esthy Reko Astuti, Tourism Ministry's archipelago tourism marketing development deputy.

Visitors of the event can also expect to enjoy traditional music performances, including a musicalization of a poem from poet Sufi Ridwan Ch. Madris, a cooking demo of 100 nasi liwet (savory steamed rice with spicy fried toppings) and tumpeng (rice cones) and a cultural carnival featuring the Bebegig Baladdewa, Wayang Landung (shadow puppet) and fish merchant community.
