he first Puteri Otonomi Indonesia 2017 (Autonomy Princess 2017) pageant was recently held during the Indonesian Regency Administrations Association (APKASI) Autonomy Expo 2017 on July 19 to 21 at Jakarta Convention Centre.

“The competition does not just look for physical beauty, she also needs to be smart and skillful in promoting her region’s potential,” said Esthy.

One the judges, Hariyanto, added that the winner has to be knowledgeable about culture, autonomy, and tourism.

Tourism ministry's archipelago marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti said the winner of Puteri Otonomi Indonesia 2017 will have the main task of promoting every regional potential of Indonesian cities. The pageant itself is hoped to become the staple event at every APKASI Expo.

27 contestants were chosen for the competition, 10 of them were selected to go to the next stage where only one of them would come out as the winner. The other nine candidates would be given titles such as the first and second runner ups, most favorite, most photogenic, Puteri Hospitality (Hospitality Princess) and Puteri Apresiasi APKASI (APKASI Appreciation Princess).

Tourism minister Arief Yahya said, "One element of Indonesia's tourism industry development is the support from endorsers. The chosen Indonesia Autonomy Princess will have to have the same mission as the tourism ministry's and that is to promote the Indonesia tourism." (asw)
