ore than 50 yachts that participate in Sail Indonesia 2017 have arrived in Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Aug. 28.

The participants reportedly would spend four days in the region until Aug. 31.

To welcome these yachters, NTB currently holds North Moyo Utara 2017, which also serves as a pre-event for the one-month Moyo Charm Festival slated until Oct. 9.

“The event is also held to support Lombok-Sumba Charm Month,” said Sumbawa Regent Husni Djibril.

Situated 2.5 kilometers to the north of Sumbawa Island, Moyo Island occupies an area of 350 square kilometers and coastline of 88 kilometers. Nestled in Saleh Bay, it boasts a nature sanctuary called Moyo Island National Park located a few kilometers from the northern beach. This place is surrounded by coral reefs and different kinds of animals, including biawak, 21 different species of bats, deer, crab-eating monkeys, cows, boars, birds, sharks and turtles.

After arriving at the Gowa Beach, the group will join a city tour to the Old Castle, which is a historical museum of Moyo Island.

In the afternoon, the island is said to host Jaran Main (racehorse) and Sumbawa Ethnic Fashion Carnivals.

The next day, participants can expect to view buffalo-racing competition and join a tour to Batu Alang Village where they will be taught to make nasi bambu (bamboo rice) while marveling at the performance of Moyo Island traditional dance.

On the third day, they will be invited to see one of North Moyo’s traditional dances called Karaci, explore North Moyo culinary and creative industry exhibition, and join the Boat Festival.

On the last day, the participants will head to Sumbawa Biodiversity conservation area located in Ai Lemak Tanjung Munangis.

In 2015, NTB reportedly welcomed 2,549,704 tourists and the number is said to increase to three million in 2016.

“This year’s target is [to attract] four million domestic and foreign tourists,” said NTB Governor Muhammad Zainul Majdi. (kes)
