The tourism ministry is working hard in order to achieve its target of 290,000 French tourists by the end of this year.

One of the ministry’s efforts is by taking part in IFTM Top Resa tourism trade fair that is being held from Sept. 26 - 29 at Parc des Expositions Porte de Versailles in Paris, France.

A total of 14 tourism practitioners from Indonesia have been chosen by the ministry to represent the country at the event, consisting of nine tour operators and five hotels from Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Jakarta and Raja Ampat.

“These representatives will do business transactions with buyers whom mostly are tour operators, high-level managers and owners of hotels and other tourism establishments in Paris and beyond,” explained the ministry's deputy minister for Overseas Promotion, I Gde Pitana.

To lure visitors, the Indonesian booth serves traditional coffee and showcases a performance of traditional dance.

“The effort to promote Indonesian destinations to the people of France won’t stop here, we are pursuing other means too such as promoting the Wonderful Indonesia brand in Paris and participating in the upcoming ILTM Cannes, a global luxury travel community event, that will be held on Dec. 4 – 7,” added the ministry's deputy assistant for Europe, the United States, Middle East and Africa tourism promotion, Nia Niscaya.

Currently, the Wonderful Indonesia tourism brand is being promoted on 16 open tour buses in Paris, France. The campaign runs from September 12 until October 9 and features beautiful Indonesian destinations such as Borobudur Temple, Bali, Komodo Island, Lake Toba and Raja Ampat.

Within the months of January until July this year, there were 144,676 French tourists who visited Indonesia, a 7.20 percent increase from the same period last year that had 134,965 visitors.

The number has been increasing ever since the implementation of free-visa policy for 30 days.

Moreover, Indonesia is among the top-five list of countries that French tourists love to go to while the people of France are on the top-three list of European tourists who visit Indonesia the most.

“On average, 40 percent [of French tourists] go to Bali, 30 percent go to Jakarta, 20 percent go to Riau islands and the rest 10 percent go to other regions […] 60 percent of French tourists who come to Indonesia actually live outside of France,” said tourism minister Arief Yahya. (asw)
