“This is a Malay cultural festival; please come and enjoy a cool tourist destination located in Karimun regency, Riau Islands,” said Karimun Tourism and Culture Agency head Zamri.

The festival will take place in Putri Kemuning People’s Stage, Tanjung Balai coastal area.

Dangkong Dance Festival is part of Riau Islands Marine Festival that will run from Oct. 14 to 21.

The event is also part of the regency’s anniversary celebration that falls on Oct. 12.

Fifteen dance groups from Indonesia are set to perform at the event, hailing from Solok, Bintan, Meranti, Tnajung Pinang, Pelawan and Karimun regencies.

Karimun is located in the western part of Singapore and Batam. The regency has plenty of cultural and natural tourist sites, such as Cetiya Vidya Buddhist Temple that was built in 1926, Bodhi Maitreya Temple, Sasana Diepa Temple and Pek Kong Temple.

Those who are looking for some countryside experience on a tropical island can head to Meral or Pasir Panjang whilst visitors who are more into underwater activities can travel to Karimun Island that is home to white sand beach where tourists can do snorkeling and enjoy delicious seafood dishes.

Other destinations at the region are Palawan and Pongkar that also boast white-sand beaches, ideal for water sport activities or just lounging under the shade of palm trees.

Meanwhile Telunas Island has become a holiday resort and a favorite among Singaporeans and students. Additionally, the two most popular destinations in this area are Terkulai and Soreh.

Traveling to Karimun is quite easy as tourists from Singapore, Johor in Malaysia, Batam and Bintan can go there by ferry.

This year, Riau Islands is targeting to welcome 2.2 million foreign tourists. (kes)
