Garut regency is set to hold Wayang Ajen (shadow puppets) show at 7:30 p.m. in the Limbangan regency square on Nov. 4.
Set to feature Ki Dalang Ajen, the event is said to carry a message of tourism development and encouraging the people to see the potential in tourist villages in Garut.
Garut Tourism and Culture Agency head Budi Gan Gan Gumilar said Wayang Ajen was chosen as the platform to communicate with the locals because the event is well known among the people who live in the North Garut, such as Limbangan, Sela Awi, Malangbong, Cibatu, Cibiuk, Banyuresmi, Leles and Kadungora.
Tourism Ministry’s archipelago tourism marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti agreed that Wayang Ajen is the right event to promote tourist villages in North Garut as it has earned a number of international awards and participated in plenty of international events.
Moreover, the concept of Wayang Ajen also suits today’s generation.

“The stage concept of Wayang Ajen showcases traditional noble values in a modern way,” said Esthy.
“There are several locations in this area that have been developed as a tourist village. Wayang Ajen is a phenomenal show that can educate the people about ‘Sapta Pesona’,” explained Budi.
The event is set to be attended by regional government agencies, academicians, entrepreneurs, art and culture communities, media publications, medium-sized business (UKM) and residents of Garut.
Esthy said Samida tourist village in Selaawi district is one of the leading destinations in Garut. The village has been very active in providing homestays or guesthouses, food, local tour guides, transportation and entertainment for tourists.
“Tourist villages need to do promotion in many different ways, such as by holding traditional welcoming dance performances, providing homestays, nature exploration through village tour, and agriculture workshop,” said Esthy. (kes)
