Every year, Banyuwangi can hold up to 72 events, of which 50 are global events.
A total of 160 unique costumes will be paraded during the Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival (BEC) event slated in Banyuwangi on Nov. 11.
“BEC is an additional [event] that aims to show the cultural richness of Banyuwangi […] Banyuwangi has a strong commitment in tourism development, and BEC 2017 is held to strengthen the attraction element,” said Banyuwangi Tourism Agency head MY Bramuda.
The festival also aims to become a place where the young people can channel their creativity, “This is a platform for the young people of Banyuwangi who are filled with ideas and creativities. At BEC, these youngsters don’t just showcase creative outfits but also act as a messenger of culture and history,” added Banyuwangi Regent Azwar Anas.

Up until Wednesday, the committee has received at least 40 foreign applicants who will be participating in the parade, hailing from countries such as Russia, Belarus, United States, France and Italy. They reportedly would dress up like a Gandrung dancer during the parade.

There are currently six direct flights for Jakarta – Banyuwangi route from Garuda Indonesia and NAM Air. Plenty of hotels, homestays, inns and guesthouses are available for tourists in the city.
In terms of tourist attractions, Banyuwangi has the popular Ijen Crater, G-Land Beach, Lider Waterfall, Red Island Beach, Green Bay, Osing Tourist Village, Sritanjung Park, Rajegwesi Island, Watu Dodol Beach and Kali Klatak Agro Tourism. (kes)
