British cyclist Daniel Whitehouse won the second lap of Tour de Singkarak 2017 that was held on Nov. 19 in West Sumatra.
The cyclist clocked in 04:03:03 to finish the 156km-track that started from Carocok Beach, Painan, South Coast and finished at Sawahlunto Triangle Field.
As he was close to the finish line, two Iranian cyclists Kholil Khorshid and Ghader Mizbani were approaching him from behind. Eventually, Khorshid and Mizbani took the second and third positions.
“What an exceptional result, I must admit this lap wasn’t easy because the route was quite challenging. This will be my foundation for the upcoming competitions,” said Whitehouse after the race.
The result from the second lap had shifted the cycling stats. German cyclist Robert Muller won the first lap of TdS, however from the result of the second lap, Mizbani of Tabriz Shahrdary Team managed to steal the yellow jersey from Muller, who was out from the top 10 list because he finished the race in 06:36:03.
As for Whitehouse, his win put him in the second position for general ranking, he collected the green jersey and 20 points. Following behind was Aiman Cahyadi from Sapura Cycling Team with 19 points.
For the polka dot jersey (climb category) it was given to Khorssid, also a member of Tabriz Shahrdary Team, who collected 15 points and then followed by Mizbani with 12 points.
There’s also a special red and white jersey for Indonesian athletes that was given to Jamal Hibatulloh of KFC Cycling Indonesia team because he finished in 06:43:36, following behind was Aiman Cahyadi with 06:45:26.
The route for the second lap passed through several tourist destinations such as Carocok Beach, Teluk Bayur Port and Sawahlunto Old Town. (asw)
