Indonesian Charms Generation (GenPI) South Sumatra chapter is set to hold Baba Boentjit Market in Palembang on Nov. 26.

The location of this market will be alongside the Musi River and will highlight one the tourist sites called Baba Ong Boen Tjit House, the house of the late businessman Oeng Boen Tjit.

The house that is located in Lorong Saudagar Yucing, is said to be 300 years old and combines the design of old-school Chinese with Palembang traditional house. The house is currently occupied by the eighth generation of Baba Ong Boen Tjit’s family. Near the house, there are lidi nipah and kemplang tunu makers.

As for the market, it will feature plenty of competitions and attractions such as photo hunting competition, blog writing competition, dance performance, drama performance of Antu Banyu legend, cooking demo by chef Kukuh and workshop on handicraft products made of daun nipah.

Visitors can also try on several traditional dishes from Palembang like srikaya, pindang udang, pindang telur gabus and of course the famous pempek.

To travel to the venue, visitors can ride a car or motorcycle or use boats from the dock of Kuto Besak Castle, Kuto Market and Ki Gede Ing Suro area that will take around five to 10 minutes to get to the location. (asw)
