ingga regency in Riau Islands recently held the Mount Daik Festival 2017 on November 19 – 22 which featured activities such as hiking, exploring history, culinary and cultural explorations and cycling around Lingga that was part of Tamadun Melayu Antar Bangsa event.

The hiking to Permata Hill activity was completed in two days on Nov. 21 -21.

“Guests arrive on Nov. 19 and will go back to Batam on Nov. 22. On Nov. 20 there is going to be a cycling tour. They first have to explore Singkep and then go to Daik on Nov.21,” told Lingga Regent Awe.

Other than the locals there were participants who came from countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Denmark.

“There are already 130 people who have submitted their passports, most of them want to take part in the cycling [activity],” he added.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that apart from having a challenging route, Mount Daik offers beautiful panoramic views from the top especially when it is still blanketed by white fog or during a sunny weather.

“Mount Daik that has three peaks have inspired songs and pantun [local style poetry verses],” Arief said.

“Lingga also has coral reefs in Senayang that is as beautiful as Bunaken’s. They also have dozens of waterfalls coming from the mountains and lesser-known hot springs,” he added. (asw)
