ourism Ministry is bringing a taste of Indonesia to Hong Kong through an exhibition called Bali and Beyond that will be held on Nov. 26 – 27 at Amoy Plaza, Hong Kong.

The event will present Indonesian coffee, spa, games and virtual reality (VR) Corner. The Ministry has also invited several travel agents in Hong Kong that sell Indonesian destinations to participate in the exhibition.

Hong Kong is one of Indonesia’s potential markets as the average spending of Hong Kong tourists while visiting Indonesia is around $1,340 per visit.

However, the number of tourist visits from Hong Kong has been declining. Up until September this year, the number of Hong Kong tourists in Indonesia were 64,634, down 1.1 percent from 2016. This year, the ministry is targeting to welcome 107,000 Hong Kong tourists.

“This is why we are doing this event, we hope it will increase the promotion for tourism in Indonesia and the number of tourists from this country,” explained the Ministry's deputy assistant for Asia-Pacific Tourism Promotion, Vinsensius Jemadu.

There will be 10 destinations and regional tourism brands presented to visitors such as Colorful Medan, Wonderful Riau Islands, Enjoy Jakarta, Stunning Bandung, Java Cultural Wonders, Majestic Banyuwangi, Friendly Lombok, Explore Makassar, Coral Wonders for Bunaken, Wakatobi, Raja Ampat and Bali the Island of the Gods.

“Bali was chosen as the main theme because Bali is still a popular destination among Hong Kong tourists,” he added.

Bali is one of the world’s most popular destinations, the island has everything that tourists are looking for such as beaches, mountains, underwater beauty and culture.

Bali has recently welcomed two world leaders namely the former United States President Barrack Obama and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman.

From the [ministry's] data, 40 percent of overseas tourists come to Indonesia via Bali, 30 percent arrive in Jakarta, 20 percent in Riau Islands the rest 10 percent arrive in different places in Indonesia.

Currently the ministry is busy promoting 10 Priority Destinations, also known as 10 New Balis such as Tanjung Kelayang in Bangka Belitung, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Morotai in North Maluku, Borobudur in Central Java, Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Thousand Islands in Jakarta, Bromo Tengger Semeru in East Java, Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi and Labuan Bajo in West Nusa Tenggara.
