Belitung holds Belitung Geopark Festival

elitung is currently hosting Belitung Geopark Festival that runs from Nov. 22 – 26. The five-day festival is being held in two different locations: Tanjung Pandan in Belitung and Manggar in East Belitung.

It has plenty of activities such as exhibition, geotrip, geocoffe, geobike, geowalk, geoband, geoculture and a National Seminar.

“This is one of the efforts to push this priority destination to become a national and global geopark as well as introducing Belitung Island Geopark to the people,” explained Tourism Ministry’s archipelago tourism marketing development deputy, Esthy Reko Astuti.

The seminar was joined by 100 people from communities, tourism industry players, provincial administrations and geopark management boards from all across the nation and Asia Pacific.

“The seminar was divided into two-panel discussions. The first one was the representative of Belitong Island Geopark Management Board, Dyah Erowati. The topic was One Year Journey to National Geopark and UNESCO Geopark Global,” said ministry's incentive trip promotional head, Hendri Karnoza.

Then the discussion was continued by the Advisory Committee UNESCO Global Geopark, Hanang Samodra who talked about Tanjung Kelayang Gelogical Profile, Arya Mahendra Sinulingga of MNC Group who talked about The National Media Support for Indonesian Geoparks Promotion and deputy IV of ESDM and Maritime Culture Coordinating Department, Safri Burhanuddin who talked about Geopark Development in the Future.

The second session had several representatives from geoparks in Indonesia to talk about two topics: The Development of Smart Tourism and Culture Application to support the geopark development and the Study on Potential Natural Disasters and Sustainable Tourism Mitigation. (asw)
