The city of Sabang in Aceh hosted a cultural parade on Nov. 29.
he city of Sabang in Aceh hosted a cultural parade on Nov. 29. The parade traveled from Yos Sudarso Field to O Surapati Street and finished at Sabang Fair.
Joined by 1,500 participants who were seen wearing Aceh traditional costumes and other unique outfits, these participants consisted of students and communities in Sabang and Banda Aceh. Drum band performance from KRI Bima Suci led the parade.
Sabang Mayor Nazaruddin said that the parade wasn’t just for entertaining visitors but it was also part of an effort to promote the art and culture of Sabang and Aceh.
“Traditional culture needs to be preserved,” said Nazaruddin.
Culture can attract visitors, “And if plenty of tourists come to Sabang, the economy will increase,” he added.
By night, the event continued with Carnival Night that showcased unique costumes with LED lights.
Aceh culture and tourism department head Reza Fahlevi said that the parade also encouraged the participation of locals to improve the tourism sector.
“This parade is a part of Sail Sabang activities involving the participation of all parties, from artists in Aceh, students to members of Eksepdisi Nusantara Jaya 2017 from all over Indonesia,” Reza said. (asw)
