Minister calls on tourism offices to be proactive this holiday season

“I instructed every tourism office to be more proactive when handing out information about tourism and culinary events that are happening this Idul Fitri holiday. I expect a minimum of five news items per day,” the minister said.

ourism Minister Arief Yahya instructed tourism offices in various provinces to disseminate more information during the Idul Fitri holidays. 

“I instructed every tourism office to be more proactive when handing out information about tourism and culinary events that are happening this Idul Fitri holiday. I expect a minimum of five news items per day,” the minister said during the Tourism Journalist Forum (Forwapar) event at Ayana Mid Plaza Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.

Arief added that the number of tourists was expected to increase during mudik (homecoming) due to the longer holiday period.

“[Tourism information] can be distributed through catalogs, on social media via #pesonamudik2018 and guidebooks for mudik tourists. [This is all being done] to increase the number of tourists,” said the minister.

Aside from Java and its surrounding areas, Arief also called on cities in Sumatra and Kalimantan to take part. He is optimistic that the number of tourists will skyrocket this year, as well as each region’s earnings. 

The Tourism Ministry will also spread information about tourist attractions, food festivals and events that will be distributed via social media, which will be made up of videos, infographics and articles all via #pesonamudik2018

The ministry is looking at a target of 270 million domestic tourists this year. (asw)
