Surf-worthy high tides, elephant and rhinoceros habitats and an active volcano; mix them together and you get a vacation wonderland called Lampung.
ourism Minister Arief Yahya said on Thursday that Lampung had seen a significant rise in international visitor numbers. He said 245,000 visitors were recorded in 2017, a 58 percent increase from 155,000 visitors in 2016.
“The number surpasses the national average of 22 percent growth,” the minister said as quoted by tempo.co.
Lampung Tourism Agency head Budiharto said high tides may have attracted surfers to the area.
“Most surfers come from Australia and the Netherlands to surf in on Banana Island,” he said.

Thrill seekers may want to visit during high tides, while those seeking long tides may want to visit Cape Setia not too far away.
Aside from the western coast, foreign tourists are also fond of the rhinoceros and elephant habitat at Way Kambas National Park. They usually stay a few days to observe the animals, on resorts available onsite.
The Son of Krakatoa volcano is also one of the most iconic tourist spots in Lampung. Budiharto said tourists were allowed to climb the volcano as long as they complied with the rules and regulations. When volcanic activity is high, tourists will be asked to wait or reschedule their visit.
Two popular means of transportation to reach Lampung include a plane ride from Jakarta, or land route via Merak Port. The local tourism agency records 64 flights to and from Lampung daily. (asw)
