T

he island regency of Belitung in Bangka Belitung Islands province is to host the Tanjung Kelayang Festival (FTK) 2018 on Nov. 15-19 at its white sand Tanjung Kelayang Beach, reports kompas.com.

The tourism festival features a series of activities in Tanjung Kelayang, a newly appointed special economic zone, and is part of the Top 100 Calendar of Events of the Wonderful Indonesia 2018 national tourism campaign.

Visitors can expect to enjoy a variety of programs during the festival, like the Rainbow of Culture parade, a regional batik fashion show and a collaborative  traditional-contemporary music performance. They can also take part in a beach clean-up, a travel vlog contest, a geopark seminar and a culinary festival.

The Tourism Ministry's secretary Ukus Kuswara, multicultural expert staff Esthy Reko Astuty and Belitung Regent H. Sahani Saleh officially launched the Tanjung Kelayang Festival on Monday in Jakarta.

Esthy said the festival could strengthen the "three A’s of tourism" – attraction, amenity and accessibility – in Tanjung Kelayang.

She said that connectivity was a crucial point, adding that national carrier Garuda Indonesia’s new route, connecting Singapore and Tanjung Pandan in Belitung, was expected to accelerate local tourism toward developing Belitung as a world-class destination.

Regent Sahani noted that the Belitung’s tourism industry had contributed 34.59 percent, or Rp 16.4 billion (US$1.1 million), to regional development in 2017.

“With Tanjung Kelayang officially designated as a priority destination, Belitung tourism will grow fast and the residents will prosper,” Sahani said. (iru/wng)
