A man involved in waving a South Maluku Republic flag in front of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last year was sentenced to life in prison. Do you think the punishment is fair?
Is this all about morality? I don't think so. It's very simple. Certain guys in the government smell the prospect of money behind the manufacturing and distribution of the very funny pants. Regardless how funny it would be to have women in locked pants, business must go on. Irrational!
This is the reason Indonesia is looked down upon by the international community. This horrible miscarriage of justice is emblematic of just how backwards, corrupt, and just plain insane the government still is. It is not a matter of cultural difference or politics, this is simply indefensible as a matter of basic human rights. One might expect this sort of thing in North Korea, but in a country that proclaims itself to be a democracy, this is completely inexcusable. If the people of Indonesia want to raise the status of their country and the welfare of their people, they will reject this kind of fascism, starting with a strong campaign to get this man freed or at least have his sentence reduced to something remotely humane.
Raising a flag is a severe crime? Are we following Chinese dictatorship?
This is a peaceful protest. So this is far from fair in a country where pardons have been granted for people in Aceh who have killed in the name of protest. Shame on the government and shame on SBY for allowing this judgment on his fellow countrymen.
The punishment is fair because if we allow it our beloved country can fall apart. Prison is the right place for a betrayer.
He was flying a flag of a non-existent republic and gets life? Did he threaten or kill somebody? Did the President get hurt? He is being sentenced like a murderer or drug dealer! I hope he appeals and gets his sentenced reduced to 240 hours work in an orphanage.
He should be free. SBY is too much. This is a free country.
Not fair at all.
Absolutely ridiculous. A fine maybe but life.
Not fair! Crazy punishment! What about freedom of speech?
