  • The Indonesian government has blocked YouTube, MySpace and other websites from showing the film Fitna. What do you think of the policy?

    What the government are doing in this respect may be justifiable by the fact that they need to ascertain that everything is stable. We learn from the past experiences of how Muslims including those in Indonesia reacted in such a (sometimes harsh) way to any offensive portrayal of Islam. So, the government are somehow trying to deter such a reaction from happening.

    Internet, however, is a whole totally different world. Sometimes, it doesn't recognize black and white. Eveything seems gray. It's limitless at any rate. None could hardly even keep porn sites from being accessed by kids. Besides, the more constraint being imposed on something, the more curious people are to know it. There is always a way to get it. This will also apply to the particular sites blocking.

    With the action on banning various websites for showing a particular film, the Indonesian government shows us how immature and frightened it still is, when it comes to freedom of press, speech, and creativity.
    I mean, if we do have a strong faith/believe about something, why are we so intimidated by a different view/opinion?

    let it be......its promoting people to learn about islam with all the gung ho about it will only promoting the movie....remember since 9/11 islam grow faster in the western part of this world because people curiosity

    It is like telling kids not to take the cake on the table. The more often you said No to them, the more eager they would take it. They would even steal it if they need to. But if just let it, they won't even touch the cake!

    Does blocking YouTube, MySpace, etc will stop the Indonesians from watching FITNA? I don't think so.

    Banning You Tube, MySpace etc...I think it is a big movement conducted by government... Eventhough Fitna Film does not really show the real of Islam. They just take some part of Quran and interpret it by their own silly mind..however banning the YOu tube is still a big issues. It doesn't necessary and in addition what the benefit of It? if it is aimed to stop people watching Fitna, it won't work coz people is still able to find it from the other sources and until when the banning will be continued??

    It is not really effective to ban the websites.

    You know, its ok to block companies who only want fame and/or fortune at "ANYONE" elses expense. I'm no supporter of YouTube or MySpace. However, as I see it, the only people who can complain about someone elses demeaning Allah are the people who have never sinned. Is that the Indonesian Government? NOT!!!

    dont bother with this film,
    it is an accummulation of incidents that you could see already many times on tv,
    dont know whoever came up with the message that this is something special.
    just nothing new in this little film
