A government team has issued a recommendation for President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to ban the "deviant" Islamic sect Jamaah Ahmadiyah. What do you think the President should do?
Who the heck is that team to ban any sect? The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) took care of the rights of every person! Just look at the so called civilized world today: let me tell you this: they are civilized in at least some ways because the rights of minorities are protected by the law and by the authorities. The country where non violent minorities are subjected to harsh treatment are indeed coward countries. BAN THE TERRORISTS WHO BURNED THAT MOSQUE, NOT THE PEACEFUL AHMADIYYA SECT THAT BELIEVES IN LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAHO MUHAMMAD UR RASOOLULLAH!
The President must resist pandering to intolerance, violence and intimidation and uphold the principles found in the constitution.
What is needed is definitive action against those "good" Muslims, burning Ahmadiyah mosques, and harrassing and assaulting its members? I havent seen any reports of violence instigated by Ahmadiyah itself.
You can say/believe what you like but actions speak loudest. This violent moral minority, including its non-representative ideologues in the MUI, are the source of conflict and division. You can be sure if todays target is Ahmadiyah, tommorrow it will be someone else labelled 'deviant'. If only they reflected on their own thoughts and actions as much as they do those of others.
If SBY want to ban Jamaah Ahmadiyah, he must ban Hizbutahrir and Front Pembela Islam. In my opinion those two groups are more dangerous than Ahmadiyah because their action often harmful.
If people agree on banning the deviant Islamic sect Jamaah Ahmadiyah, it means that we fail to understand the meaning of our Indonesian philosophy "Bhineka Tunggal Ika" (Diversity in Unity"). And above all we deny and chastise our very existence as human being who has right to choose and believe to whatever we wish. And no longer our country will become more closed society (exclusive, fundamentalism, and chauvinishm) and it is not good place to occupy by human being.
I 100% agree that our government would ban the Jamaah Ahmadiyah. Even I do hope the goverment would also ban other Islamic sects which are deviant to our two Islamic sources of teachings, i.e Holy Qur'an and Hadits of Prophet Muhammad Shalallahu 'alaihi wassalam (PBUH). This is important for us to protect our 'aqeedah' (believe) to the right path. But, I wonder who is the government team who has issued a recommendation for the President? In my opinion, to issue the recommendation to ban any deviant Islamic sects is the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI)'s right. After the MUI made a detail research to the sect, and then issued a fatwa and recommendation, the President should execute it.
Dear Sir,
It is recommended in the Holy Quran that La Ikraha Feddin--There is no compulsion in religion. Besides, the country's constitution does not support it.So the Hon'able president should not take any decission against constitution which ensured the freedom of each religion, all faith.

This is the opportunity for President SBY to create lasting legacy of his presidency. I am hoping that he will reject the idea of banning certain non-violent religious sect on the basis of universal human rights.
In the current situation, that decision will certainly make him unpopular and, as an effect, make him lose his second-term presidential bid. Even worse, this decision may spark various vertical and horizontal clashes and disintegration movements.
However, time will tell that his decision is actually unifying Indonesia even stronger. Because his decision will send a clear message that there is no place in Indonesia for institutionally imposing certain belief towards others. If this unconstitutional recommendation is approved, Indonesia is no more!
Moreover, what makes MUI's recommendation is the basis for legal judgment? Regardless whether the majority of the citizens agree with such recommendation, the government should stand up and say that the recommendation is unconstitutional if it is unconstitutional.
Mr. President, I appeal to you, you are sworn to protect the whole country and not to protect only certain groups. This is your chance to define the strong Indonesian government that is not bullied by certain groups or interests. Stand up and ensure the unified Indonesia that lasts forever.
Dear sir,
Assalamu alaikum. At first it is mentionable here that who is muslim? So far hadith it is he who himself calls him muslim is a muslim and declares five fundamental obligation of Islam like- Kalima, Salat,Fasting,Hajj & Zakat. So far i know ahmadiyya observes all these.Besides religion is a faith which belongs to Allah . Allah has the all power to punish anyone. If the hard liners has faith in Allah they should leave the matter to Allah. If they think that there Allah is not sufficient for punishing some one who commits evil done they should leave their faith on Allah.Actually what they want? They want a islamic state where they can apply their own created Fatwa like Afganistan,Pakistan. If the government fall into a prey of hard liners the country will suffer in the long run.The state is for all.In Islam there are many sects like shia, sunni etc, They also hold differenc in faith in islam which is objectionable and against the basic teachings of islam, Quran, Sunnah. For instace i can cite an example here that the hard liner believes that the jesus still alive in Fourth Sky which Quran does not support and there is no word like Sky regarding these matter. Besides, the science does not support it.The Quran and science are not to be contradictory. However it may be so long if i continue to write. My humble request to Hon'ble President not to take any decission which goes against Basic teaching of Islam. The basic pillars of Islam are Kalima, Namaz, Fasting, Hajj,Zakat and ahmadi followers do observes all these. So they never be deviant. The word Khatamannabiyyen explanation must not be contradict the teaching of Quran. So far my Knowledge go the hard liners explanation of this word is contradictory and they have nothing to prove their explanation that their explanation is correct merely gathering some sensitive people who does not want to judge what are they doing. Hon'able President , Dear Sir , please let the state go on its own way and thus the religion.Don't mix it , otherwise the country will fall into a great problem.
With regards
President should refer to the constitution and do not try to break the constitution. Believe in any religion is free and covered by constitution. This is basic human rights. Do not ban Ahmadiyah but ban vandal organization.
Religion is business of human being with the Infinite, cannot be meddled by whoever, inclusive of President.
On May 20, 2008, Indonesia will celebrate its 100th National Awakening Day. In what ways are you proud and/or embarrassed of Indonesia?
