There’s a saying that the apple does not fall far from the tree, and we’ve met someone who has proven that it’s true.

As the daughter of diva Ruth Sahanaya, Nadine Emmanuella Waworuntu has always pictured herself becoming a singer.

“I’ve been surrounded by music since the day I was born. It’s everywhere. And my mom always says it’s in my blood,” she said.

“And music has been my interest since before I could remember.”

To accomplish her everpresent goal, Nadine takes seriously every minor thing that could help her improve her musicality.

“I learn a lot from my mother — singing technique, the soul of the music and much more. When she corrects me, I always try not to make the same mistake,” the 14-year-old told youthspeak.

Being the offspring of a well-known singer and learning much about music from her, it was natural for Nadine to say her mother has been her greatest inspiration as well as her idol.

She said her mom always supported her and never forgot to compliment her which gave Nadine the courage to go all out in all her activities.

Nadine has proven her singing skill. She performed in a singing contest broadcast on TV, singing with the rhythm and blues group Soulvibe, and in many music shows.

Besides singing, she was also keen on playing guitar and piano, she said.

“It’s amazing to watch someone play guitar. So I decided to learn how to play it. I thought it would be easy, but it’s not. But I keep learning,” she said, adding that she also sometimes had jam sessions with her younger sister.

But just like any other teenager, Nadine has a crush on a distant idol. Hers is on actor Johnny Depp.

“He’s gorgeous, not only his look but also his talent. His acting from one movie to another is never the same, the feeling is always different. I just love him!” she said.

Apart from her passion for music, Nadine has also found that building time for sports around her school schedule and musical activities is fun. She chose basketball and soccer as her things.

“I joined the girls’ soccer team in my school. We’ve been in some competitions. And I play basketball. I’ve been playing that since I was a kid. Maybe that’s in my blood, too, because my dad was an athlete,” she said, referring to Jeffry Waworuntu.

Nadine said she enjoyed her sports activities because they gave her a different kind of joy than singing did.

“It crossed my mind once I could do something different from my mom— photography or focus more on sports. But I think I’ll just focus on one thing first and keep on enjoying the other things I love to do,” she said.

Nadine is now preparing an album, a duet endeavor with her diva mother, slated to come out by the end of the year.

“I hope it all goes well,” Nadine said in closing.
