“Toward greater fun, funds and friends” was the theme of the first family funfair held at the Singapore International School in Kelapa Gading. The successful event on April 17 was inspired by the desire to raise enough funds to donate to Habitat for Humanity programs in Indonesia.
The event also aimed to spark entrepreneurship skills of the pupils, boost camaraderie within and among SIS families and generate some serious fun. The sponsors wanted to promote a channel for creativity, sportsmanship and cooperation.
More than 20 booths provided, fun, food and games that participants could join. Original concept booths were set up by each class. Students managed them with a bit of help from their teachers and parents.
The funfair served as a venue for the SIS-KG pupils to understand and appreciate values such as teamwork, honesty, creativity and many more. One particular example was the challenge of managing a car-wash booth. First year secondary students got a real educational experience, in which they learned the value of hard work.
The overwhelming support exerted by all sectors of SIS-KG spelled success for the funfair. It raised 48 million rupiah in cash for the charity.
This true story is the background for a fairy tale that may come true, once houses are built for the beneficiaries.
