em>The WIR Group, a grouping of leading software companies involved in digital reality technology in Southeast Asia, has prompted the development of the retail sector in Indonesia through digital reality. It also highlights that artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) will accelerate corporate transformation and become solutions to various problems in other sectors.

In the WIR Tech Outlook at the annual DISRUPTO 2019 technology festival, the WIR Group said that digital reality is a strategy to develop and transform infrastructure in Indonesia. WIR Group has several business sub-units, namely augmented reality content developer AR & Co, augmented reality devices DAV, virtual network store platform Mindstores and location-based AR games Minar.

The WIR Group, which applies fundamental principles to its operations, is confident that digital reality will propel development in various sectors, especially for companies willing to adapt and transform in the digital age.

The retail industry, meanwhile, is among the fastest growing in Indonesia. The retail sector is expected to increase its IT budget by 17 percent annually until 2021, according to an American provider of market intelligence, the International Data Corporation (IDC), making it one of the fastest-growing sectors for technology spending in Indonesia.

As more consumers want personalized experiences, companies have to start looking for solutions to cater to demand and find a key to business growth in the digital era. IDC estimates that the retail sector will prioritize digital transformation to improve its business operations, focusing on customer engagement and consumer shopping references.

Digital reality technology, furthermore, is applicable and relevant for many sectors, such as financial technology, health, agriculture, transportation and information services.

This year, DISRUPTO explores the theme of “The Future of Humanity”, highlighting the importance of technology for those living in urban and rural areas. The event also sought to highlight that technological developments can go hand in hand with humanity.

“We launched the DISRUPTO tech festival to show the technological developments happening at this time and to encourage the community to adapt to technology,” said Daniel Surya, the executive chairman at the WIR Group, who founded the annual DISRUPTO tech event. The WIR Group, on the other hand, has a mission to create a new technology platform that can empower communities.

“We also want to show that new technology not only offers benefits to the company but also benefits humanity,” Daniel said.

DISRUPTO 2019, held in Jakarta from Nov. 22 to 24, featured many notable figures who spoke about the latest trends in the tech world. The event featured, among others, academic and businessman Rhenald Kasali, a 14-year-old girl named Tilly Lockey who has bionic arms, representatives of Japanese robot company Cyberdyne, which creates robots to help the elderly and disabled gain mobility, and representatives of the Israeli WaterGen company, which invented technology that turns air into safe drinking water.

Participants also had a chance to meet the Furhat social robot, made by Furhat Robotics, which can communicate and use facial expressions and gestures. The event was attended by several CEOs from various industries.

Established in 2009, the WIR Group has handled more than 1,000 projects in 20 countries, including the United States, Germany, Spain, Nigeria, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar. The WIR Group has also partnered with large Indonesian companies, including Alfamart, Kimia Farma, Electronic City and the Awadah Group.
