Asian Games: Indonesia adds another bronze from soft tennis

The Indonesian soft tennis team added another bronze medal to its collection after being beaten by South Korea in the men’s group category. The South Koreans won 2-0.
Indonesia had already bagged one silver and two bronze medals.
The first match was the men’s doubles with Indonesia's Prima Simpati Aji and Irfandi Indrawan against Kim Beomjun and Kim Donghoon. The South Koreans clinched all five sets 5-3, 4-1, 4-2, 4-1 and 4-0.
Indonesia then tried to catch up through Alexander Elbert Sie, who faced Kim Jinwoong, who had defeated Elbert in the men’s singles final match a few days ago. Elbert lost 3-5,3-5, 4-0,4-6, 4-0 and 2-4.
The second defeat automatically put an end to Indonesia’s effort to reach the final.
Elbert said he went all out to fight back but acknowledged that Kim’s skills were out of his league.
“Kim is a better player, that’s it,” he said.
Commenting on this, Indonesian Soft Tennis Association chief Martuama Saragih said the additional bronze put Indonesia in fourth position after South Korea, Japan and Chinese Taipei on the soft tennis regional rankings.
“We haven’t moved from fourth position since the 2014 Incheon Asian Games,” he told The Jakarta Post on Saturday. (dic)
