Japan’s women basketball team defeated Chinese Taipei 76-63 to win the bronze medal at the Asian Games on Saturday.

Japan coach Natsumi Yabuuchi told the press after the match that she was very happy with the victory.

Regarding the strategy that clinched them a comeback win, team captain Mio Shinozaki said they pushed themselves to level the score.

“I just tried as hard as I could to get the win,” she added on Saturday.

Shinozaki was a key player in Japan’s comeback win in the second half with her three-point shot that gave them a four-point gap over Chinese Taipei. She finished the match with 16 points.

Albert Wagner, Chinese Taipei’s head coach, said the reason why his team lost was because they fluffed several shots, especially in the second half.

“Obviously we are disappointed. Our team didn’t shoot well in the second half,” he added. (dic)
