Indonesia will maintain its position on Palestine, the government asserted on Thursday, in response to Israel’s entry into the Board of Peace that will convene next week, marking what may potentially be the first time in decades that an Indonesian and an Israeli leader will sit at the same table.

The Defense Ministry says it has prepared troops designated for a possible Gaza peacekeeping mission, awaiting only a final decision from President Prabowo Subianto expected at the end of the month.

Foreign ministers of Muslim countries, including Indonesia, condemned the illegal Israeli decisions, which are seen as an attempt to impose "unlawful" Israeli sovereignty, Saudi Arabia said in a statement. 

Jakarta-based Center for Strategic and International Studies’ (CSIS) senior fellow and cofounder Jusuf Wanandi views Indonesia’s participation in the United States-led Board of Peace as giving the country and other Muslim-majority nations leverage within the board.

The meeting is planned to be held at the US Institute of Peace in Washington, the report added, noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet Trump at the White House on Feb. 18, a day before the planned meeting.

The government claimed that the country’s international relations community had backed President Prabowo Subianto’s foreign policy, following a closed-door meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, though analysts warned the gathering may have been aimed at neutralizing critics rather than engaging the public.

Under US President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan that ended a two-year war in the Palestinian territory, the PA's post-war role in Gaza was left unclear.

Saif al-Islam's office said in a statement on Tuesday that he had been killed during a "direct confrontation" with four unknown gunmen who broke into his home. Further details were not made public.

Around 150 people were due to leave the territory on Monday, and 50 to enter it, according to Egyptian officials, more than 20 months after Israeli forces fighting in Gaza closed the crossing.

Indonesia has condemned Israel’s latest air strikes and repeated ceasefire breaches in Gaza, amid public concerns that its long-standing pro-Palestinian stance is softening after joining the United States-controlled Board of Peace.

The resumption of operations in a tightly restricted pilot phase on Sunday came after months of appeals from aid groups.

"The Americans should know that if they start a war, this time it will be a regional war," Khamenei was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.

The State Department said it green-lighted a $3.8-billion sale of 30 Apache attack helicopters to Israel, which has agreed to a fragile ceasefire in Gaza.

Entry and exit "will be permitted in coordination with Egypt, following prior security clearance of individuals by Israel, and under the supervision of the European Union mission", Israel has announced.

"I built (up) the military in my first term, and now we have a group headed out to a place called Iran, and hopefully we won't have to use it," Trump told reporters at the premiere of a documentary about his wife Melania.

"Melania" was not listed on the websites of the Nu Metro or Ster Kinekor theatres on Thursday, the day before its international release on January 30.

The carrier and its accompanying ships were ordered to the region as Iran cracked down on mass protests. While President Donald Trump has since backed away from military action against Tehran, he has insisted all options remain on the table.

Indonesia’s entry onto the Board of Peace for Gaza on Thursday has stoked fresh fears that Jakarta could be coerced into a United States-controlled agenda in the war-torn territory, amid concerns it might stray from or even rival existing United Nations mechanisms to restore peace.

Demonstrations initially sparked by economic grievances turned into a movement against the theocracy that has ruled Iran since 1979.

The statement added that each country will sign accession documents in accordance with its legal procedures.

While some traditional allies of the US have responded cautiously, and in a few cases have rejected Trump's offer, other nations have accepted an invitation to join the Washington-led Gaza reconstruction efforts.

Although originally meant to oversee Gaza's rebuilding, the board's charter does not seem to limit its role to the Strip and appears to want to rival the United Nations, sparking the ire of some US allies including France.

Indonesia has denounced Israel's recent demolition of buildings belonging to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees in the occupied East Jerusalem.  

In a heated exchange of threats, Iran and the United States both threatened broadscale wars if the leaders of either country are assassinated.

The Chagos agreement will see Britain hand the archipelago -- some 2,000 kilometers northeast of Mauritius -- to its former colony and pay to lease the US-UK military base for a century.

When asked by a reporter about Macron saying he will not join the board, Trump said, "Did he say that? Well, nobody wants him because he will be out of office very soon."

The board would be chaired for life by Trump and would start by addressing the Gaza conflict and then be expanded to deal with other conflicts, according to a copy of the letter and draft charter seen by Reuters.
