resh from a two-country visit that concluded in Russia, President Prabowo Subianto landed in northern Sumatra early on Friday to review evacuation efforts and the wider emergency response in the flood-stricken region, as the death toll from the disaster continued to rise.
Prabowo arrived at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, where he was greeted by Governor Bobby Nasution, First Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Angga Raka Prabowo and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
The President was set to revisit several disaster-hit areas identified for further government support, where he would inspect evacuation posts, logistics distribution and health services.
He would also assess the readiness of the military, police, disaster-management and local administration teams deployed to manage the crisis.
On Friday morning, Prabowo visited one of the hardest-hit regencies, Aceh Taming, in neighboring Aceh province. In a brief address, the President apologized for any shortcomings in the government’s response following the deadly flash floods and landslides that cut off numerous villages.
“The government will help with everything. I apologize if some things have not yet been handled. We are working hard,” he told residents, adding that the administration would “continue striving” to overcome hardships together, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s Youtube channel.
