ocal steel bridge manufacturers can build Bailey bridges to support the recovery and reconstruction process in northern part of Sumatra without having to rely on imports, an association said on Wednesday.
The national steel industry is ready to supply 100 Bailey bridges without importing the raw material, the Indonesian Society of Steel Construction (ISSC) chairman Budi Harta Winata said, as quoted by detiknews.com.
“The construction of Bailey bridges will use domestic production capacity and expertise. All main components can be produced by ISSC members, from material, fabrication and construction,” he said.
“The national steel and construction industry is very ready. Building 100 Bailey bridges can be done using 100-percent domestic products without having to rely on imports.”
Bailey bridges are a strategic solution to accelerate connectivity, especially in remote, border and natural disaster-affected areas. With modular designs and fast assembly systems, the bridges can be built efficiently while maintaining safety and quality standards.
The ISSC said that the utilization of national materials will not only accelerate infrastructure development but also provide positive impacts on the domestic economy, including increasing the local content level (TKDN), absorbing employment and strengthening the national steel industry.
The society also said that there are 22 companies ready to produce up to 151 Bailey bridges in the coming month.
