e recently compiled our top five picks for TV series you should binge-watch. Now we travel back to the 1990s and 2000s for our top ten series that have definitely survived the test of time 

Futurama (1999 - 2013)

Number of seasons: 7

This animated sitcom centers around a pizza delivery guy named Phillip J. Fry who was frozen for a thousand years and reheated in the year 2999. In the 31st century, Phillip is hired by Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery service where he meets extraterrestrial beings like Leela and cynical robot Bender.

Created by Matt Groening, the same guy behind The Simpsons, the show collected six Emmy awards during its airtime and branched out into comic books, movies and a video game as well.

That ‘70s Show (1998 - 2006)

Number of seasons: 8

How sweet it is that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis who starred as Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart, respectively, in the show are now a married couple with a daughter in real life.

This popular teen sitcom about a group of teenagers and their coming-of-age adventures in 1970s Wisconsin propelled its cast members Topher Grace, Wilmer Valderrama, Danny Masterson and the two aforementioned actors into stardom. 

Gilmore Girls (2000 – 2007)

Number of seasons: 7

With the production of Gilmore Girls Revival is currently underway, it’s of course the perfect time to binge-watch the original series on Netflix. 

Set in a fictional town of Stars Hollow in Connecticut, single mother Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) lives together with her daughter Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel). They have a very close relationship and live in a town filled with eclectic people. Add education, ambition and love issues into the mix and you can expect to see a lot of drama in each episode of the series.

Friends (1994 – 2004)

Number of seasons: 10

Undoubtedly the most-popular sitcom ever created, Friends really transcends all generations of TV viewers from 90s kids to today’s millenials. 

The story of Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Joey, Chandler and Ross, who live practically next door to each other in an apartment complex located in Manhattan, New York, and face love, work and friendship issues and a few mishaps, are really what makes this show relatable to ordinary people.

The X-Files (1993 – now)

Number of seasons: 10

The longest running sci-fi, fantasy series on TV, The X-Files recently released season 10 in January this year after an almost 15-year hiatus from the previous one. 

The plotline revolves around two FBI agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who are tasked to deal with the X-Files -- cases involving paranormal and weird conspiracy theories. Mulder is a believer while Scully is the polar opposite of him and together they create the perfect work chemistry that makes viewers wonder whether their relationship is strictly professional.

M*A*S*H (1972 – 1983)

Number of seasons: 11

This comedy series was adapted from the feature film Mash, itself based on the novel by Richard Hooker titled “MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors”. It is set in the time of the Korean War where an army hospital division is assigned to Uijeongbo in South Korea. 

Many of the stories in the early seasons are real-life stories told to the show’s producers by real MASH surgeons. The season finale of M*A*S*H was the most-watched and highest-rated single episode in the US at the time it aired.

Charmed (1998 – 2006)

Number of seasons: 8

A must-watch series for the 90s teenagers back in the day, three sisters, known as The Charmed Ones, discover that they actually witches and decided to use their superpowers to fight evil while trying to keep their true identity a secret from the people around them.

Twin Peaks (1990 – 1991)

Number of seasons: 2

In case you haven’t heard, this series is returning to TV with a brand new season sometime around 2016. 

The original series, which lasted for only two seasons, garnered high ratings thanks to the genius of the series’ creators David Lynch and Mark Frost in combining offbeat humor and quirky characters with surrealism presented in the tone of horror movies.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 – 2003)

Number of seasons: 7

If you like soapy, teen dramas with a touch of fantasy, then Buffy the Vampire Slayer is for you. 

Created by Joss Whedon, whom you might know from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Sarah Michelle Gellar played the lead role Buffy Summers, a vampire slayer tasked with fighting vampires, demons and other evil spirits. Buffy is mentored by a watcher and is helped by her gang of friends who call themselves the Scooby Gang.

Malcolm in the Middle (2000 – 2006)

Number of seasons: 7

Before Bryan Cranston scored the role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, he starred as loving father (Hal) to Malcolm in Malcolm in the Middle. Malcolm, played by Frankie Muniz, is the lead role in this offbeat comedy series about the adolescent and his dysfunctional family. Malcolm is also a child prodigy and has to take classes for gifted children, which means he endures constant bullying by his peers at school. 

This series is perfect for those who like to watch a light series peppered with good humor.
