ormaal Animation, the production house that created the animated TV series “Peanuts” is set to participate in Popcon Asia 2016 to be held on Aug. 12-14 at the Jakarta Convention Center, South Jakarta.

The company's vice producer Marie Lassal will reportedly make an appearance to introduce the company’s renowned works such as “Peanuts”, “Oscar & Hoo” and “Hello World”, as well as share experience about animation trends in Asia, especially in Indonesia.

“Peanuts” is based on comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz and has been published in over 2,600 newspapers from more than 75 countries, including Indonesia. It has many popular characters, such as the iconic Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Lucy. The animated series is considered unique due to the use of watercolor as an artwork technique.

“The idea of making the animated series as similar as possible with the comic version came from the comic creator’s wife, Jean Schulz,” said Marie Lassal in a press release. “We agree with the idea because we believe that children basically enjoy animation that is hilarious and rich in colors as well as energy, either in 2D or 3D.”

Other works by Normaal Animation, “Oscar & Hoo”, targets young audience and follows friendship between a boy named Oscar and a cloud named Hoo. It is adapted from the work of Michael Dudok de Wit, an illustrator that had received Academy Award and Cannes. Meanwhile, “Hello World”, an animated series that explores the births and lives of 52 animal species, won Cristal for a TV production at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2015. (kes)
