ens of music and film piracy websites have been blocked by the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), said a member of the agency on Tuesday.

"Up to 22 websites that host illegal music content and 22 illegal websites related to film have been blocked," said Bekraf anti-piracy task force head Ari Juliano Gema as quoted by Antara news agency.

The move had reportedly decreased the users' traffic although the owners later changed the domains' names. It also potentially lowers the spread of online gambling and pornography advertisements that became the websites' main source of income.

"With the traffic collapsing, advertisers will refuse to come. These illegal websites will find it difficult to survive since they need servers that are not cheap," said Ari.

Established just last year, the task force continues to coordinate with the police, the Communications and Information Ministry and the Law and Human Rights Ministry's intellectual property directorate general to solve the piracy issues in the country that are harming the creative industry players.

The potential losses of a movie piracy can reach Rp 4 billion (US$307,515), said Ari. "Piracy in the music industry has been claimed to harm the players by up to Rp 4 trillion in 2010," he added.

Through complaints mechanism and effective action, the task force is expected to be able to boost creative economy growth that only reached 7 percent in 2015. "Hopefully the creative sector can help fill up the losses in state income due to the growth decrease trend in the oil and gas and mining sectors," said Ari. (kes)
