a href="http://www.mizuma.sg" target="_blank">Mizuma Gallery in Gillman Barracks, Singapore, will be showcasing works by six Indonesian artists in an upcoming exhibition entitled How It Feels from Nov. 12 to Dec. 23.

Curated by Hermanto Soerjanto, the exhibition will feature 14 abstract paintings by Made Wianta, Pupuk Daru Purnomo, Faizal, Dipo Andy, Yoga Mahendra and R. Yuki Agriardi.

"We recognize things around us by their visual attributes that give us information of what they are. The experience of looking at things often triggers associated feelings. Presented in the form of abstract paintings, these artists attempt to extract feelings out of objects and images by stripping them of their visual attributes," stated the gallery in a press release.

In his curatorial text, Hermanto invites the audience to set aside the intellectual narratives of the works, and instead to “connect with the emotional responses of the participating artists”.

Established in 1994 in Tokyo and in 2012 in Singapore, Mizuma Gallery aims to promote Japanese artists in the region as well as promising young talents from Southeast Asia. Among Indonesian artists that have been featured at the gallery are Heri Dono, Nasirun, indieguerillas, Albert Yonathan Setyawan, Agung Prabowo and Angki Purbandono.

Open everyday except Monday and national holidays, the entry to the exhibition is free of charge. (mra/kes)
